Local MSP calls for action on muscle disease
Cathy Peattie MSP has met with local campaigners, families and individuals
living with muscle disease in the Scottish Parliament during the Muscular
Dystrophy Campaigns national awareness week, The Big Push (picture
attached, with Malcolm Chisholm MSP and campaigners)
It is important that MSPs from across the parties join forces in
the fight against muscle disease," said Cathy. "We need to make
independent living a priority. In particular we need action to improve
powered wheelchair provision and home adaptations for disabled people
in Scotland."
Attending the lobby and supporting the campaign, River City actor Eileen
McCallum, whose two grandchildren have Duchenne muscular dystrophy, said:
At the moment the needs of my grandchildren are being met but Im
concerned about what the future might hold. Too often in Scotland wheelchair
provision is inconsistent, inadequate and often subject to a postcode
lottery. Mobility is a basic right - the technology is there and yet were
lagging behind. We need the help of our Parliament now, and I call on
MSPs from across the parties to back the campaign.
Stephen McDoland, Chair of the Scottish Council of the Muscular Dystrophy
Campaign, said: Im pleased that we can count on Cathys
support shes a strong voice in Parliament for local people
living with muscle disease
