Kicking up a stink

Cathy Peattie has slated Falkirk Council for their poor response to a safety alert:

"A constituent phoned Environmental Health to report a strange and unpleasant smell in their area. Particularly with the smell being nauseating, she was concerned about it possibly being hazardous and even life-threatening. Environmental Health told her it would be FIVE days before they could investigate.

"What would be the point in that? If the smell was caused by dangerous chemicals, an immediate response is absolutely essential. And in any event, the longer it is left, the harder it becomes to identify the cause and the extent of the hazard.

"Fortunately, when she phoned SEPA, she got a more reassuring response. They were already aware of the problem and on their way to investigate - but heaven help us if the SNP abolish SEPA!

"So I'd like to give my thanks to SEPA for being on the ball, but I'm afraid Falkirk Council's performance stinks."
