Fairtrade Falkirk

Cathy Peattie has tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament to welcome Falkirk being awarded Fairtrade Town status.

"The motion applauds the people who have worked really hard to make Falkirk a Fairtrade Town," said Cathy, "and looks forward, welcoming the steering committee's declared intention to work with other local communities to make the whole Falkirk area a fairtrade area.

“I look forward to the day when I can table a motion congratulating Scotland on becoming a fairtrade country.”

Cathy first raised the issue of fair trade in the Scottish Parliament in 2001, tabling motions on parliament's own use of products and encouraging the Scottish Executive to endorse fair trade and to encourage school participation. These, and another 2001 motion from Cathy Jamieson, were the first motions tabled in the Scottish Parliament on the issue.

S2M-4316 Cathy Peattie (Falkirk East) (Lab) : Falkirk Fairtrade Town— That the Parliament applauds the many people, including representatives of community groups, businesses, churches, Falkirk Council and the town centre management, whose hard work and dedication have enabled Falkirk to become a Fairtrade Town, and looks forward to the extension of fairtrade status throughout the Falkirk area.
