Forth Crossing
Falkirk East MSP Cathy Peattie has called on Transport Scotland to include
the Falkirk Council area in the consultation on the new Forth Crossing.
"Two of the five crossing corridors examined by the Forth Replacement
Crossing Study involved sites in my constituency," said Cathy.
"All the others have direct or indirect consequences for traffic
flows and the development of infrastructure in the Falkirk Area. Yet of
the twelve public information exhibitions being held, nothing has been
organised in the Falkirk Council area."
Edinburgh and North Queensferry have a whole week of exhibitions. There
are four others in Edinburgh, three others in Fife, one in Dundee and
one in Perth.
"They all get a chance to check out the plans, but go west from the
current bridge, and there is only one. That is in Uphall, which I doubt
will be thought adequate by the people of West Lothian, and certainly
will be of limited usefulness to people in the Falkirk Council area. From
the existing bridge, it is the same distance to Bo'ness and the centre
of Edinburgh; Blackness is closer than most venues; and Grangemouth and
Falkirk are nearer than Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, Dundee or Perth - yet they
are not being kept as well informed and consulted.
"It is clearly disappointing that Transport Scotland did not see
fit to consult with my constituents, but it is not too late for them to
make amends. I want to hear their proposals to stage the exhibition in
Bo'ness, Grangemouth and Falkirk, so that my constituents may be properly
consulted on this matter."
