Bo'ness groups discuss heritage with MSPsThursday 14th September: Bo'ness Means Business and the Friends of Kinneil met MSPs in the Scottish Parliament, to discuss the importance of the varied and extensive heritage of Bo'ness. Gathered to discuss the current situation with local museums, the World
Heritage bid and the potential value of these to the local economy were
Falkirk East MSP Cathy Peattie (Labour), Central Scotland MSPs Donald
Gorrie (Liberal) and Margaret Mitchell MSP (Conservative), The cross party support on this issue is a very positive development, said Cathy. The groups make a very persuasive case on behalf of the thousands of Bo'ness people who supported the recent campaign to save and promote Kinneil Estate, and beyond that, for the educational, tourist and economic potential of heritage related development in Bo'ness. I'm pleased that the Council seems to be taking notice, but there is clearly much more that can be done, particularly with the World Heritage bid making Kinneil a site of international importance. Adrian Mahoney, Chair of The Friends of Kinneil, said: "Bo'ness has great opportunities to build on its wealth of heritage assets, including the historic Kinneil Estate. To do this successfully will need the support of not only the local council, but central government and its agencies - and, of course, the local community. "I was pleased that MSPs took time out of their busy schedules to meet with us. Perhaps they can press the powers-that-be - and encourage fresh interest and enhanced funding in the town's heritage." |
